We are allies for all immigrant students and families
You might be...
A high school student learning English, wondering if you can become a doctor one day.
A college freshman thinking about a career in medicine, but don't know where to learn more information. A pre-med struggling or debating if you should continue pursuing this path, but are afraid of disappointing your family. An applicant who feels lost after being rejected by numerous schools in the current or past cycles. A concerned parent who wishes to know more about the education and training required for your child to become a doctor. An interested student or parent who would like to have a conversation with someone who has successfully gone down the medical path from your language and cultural background. |
We understand the struggleComing from an immigrant family, we faced many difficulties - learning English, establishing social connections, and assimilating into a new culture while maintaining our own. We may have experienced social isolation, bullying, lack of academic resources, or various other obstacles along our path, making us question, or even worse, hate our own cultural and language upbringing.
The journey to medicine is challenging. We have all doubted the sacrifice required for academic competitiveness and extracurricular activities at one point in time. The idea of lifelong test-taking is not something we desire. Some of us have even considered dropping out of the medical career path but were too scared to discuss it with our families for many different reasons. At times, we just wanted someone to talk to that had been in our shoes and understood our struggles. This is what we are here for. We cannot decide for you and your family what the correct decision is, but we can provide support, advice, and a lending ear so that you can make the best, most informed decision. We have mentors who were all once pre-med now successful in a multitude of different professions. We can also help facilitate family discussions and break down misconceptions about what a career in medicine looks like. |
